Well, RAPE or SEXUAL ASSAULT is a GLOBAL (SERIOUS!) ISSUE, not just in India or the US. You... can check out the Rape Statistics on the Wikipedia..! I was dumbstruck for a moment! Seriously, is this the world we want to live in?
This is one of the causes for FEMALE-FETICIDE! People are afraid to have a girl child coz' of all this complications! It's a huge tension for parents when their girl is out there in the streets alone. Her safety means everything to them.
I personally think the UNITED NATIONS should act upon it since it’s a world-prevalent situation. The laws have to be modified. Death penalty or life sentence without parole… there must be some strict punishment. And the punishment has to be made global. So that no matter where in the world the crime takes place, the offender has to face the same punishment.
Also the inmates have to be straightened before they get a parole.
It must be taught in schools and colleges how wrong sexual assault is. The parents too need to explain their children (males) how sinful it is and to never make that mistake. Hope there never comes a day when every girl has to learn self-defense to survive.
It’s time some action be taken.
